Marsyas: Running out of skin
Kira O’Reilly, Bristol
Research and Development Award: £15 000

Performance artist Kira O’Reilly will undertake a residency at SymbioticA, within the Department of Human Anatomy, University of Western Australia. O’Reilly will work alongside scientists through a series of collaborations to explore processes of tissue culturing, engineering and microscopic imaging. The project aims to re-evaluate the body as site and material, working with culturing tissue and engineering skin grown from the artist’s cells. The artist’s knowledge of traditional lace-making techniques will possibly result in her generating in vitro skin lace.
