How To Live
Bobby Baker; Professor Richard Hallam; artsadmin, London.
Production Award: £100 000

Performance artist Bobby Baker will develop a new therapy inspired by her experience of being treated with Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), a form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Working in collaboration with psychologist Professor Richard Hallam, Baker will explore the principles of DBT/CBT, the concept of teachable skills and the very nature of psychology where it is focused on the examination and transformation of the self.

The public launch of the project will take place at the Barbican Arts Centre, London, in November 2004, encompassing a large-scale theatrical production performance by Bobby Baker and a specially commissioned film. A one-day symposium on ‘The Psychologization of Society’ (working title) will accompany the event. A workshop version of the project will also be developed for venues including mental health day centres, businesses and educational institutions. A smaller version of the show and workshops will be touring nationally and internationally from 2005.
