Ethereal Bodies
Lucy Orta, London College of Fashion
Research and Development Award: £15 000

Artist Lucy Orta will work in partnership with a number of biologists to explore the effects that certain environments have on the body, its physical appearance and the relationship of the individual in the community as a whole. Through the partnerships, Lucy Orta intends to explore a specific area of biological science that will inform the social dimension of the artist’s work. She will examine current technologies for the viewing of complex 3-D image data of the type found in cellular and developmental biology for the development of a series of new artworks and transpose this information into sculptural formats: portable shelter, clothing body, architecture and larger-scale architectural prototypes.
