Skin Deep

www.allchangearts.org
Skin Deep by All Change, in partnership with Sadler’s Wells, is a digital dance performance that was created by 58 young Londoners to explore the facts and fiction behind genetic science and its impact on society. They worked in conjunction with poets, dancers, musicians, digital artists and scientists to create digital artworks and choreography culminating in three digital dance performances that took place in the Lilian Baylis Theatre at Sadler’s Wells in April 2004. The project was supported by Dr Anand Saggar (Clinical Geneticist) and Professor Alf Linney (Medical Imaging Physicist).

DNA: The facts and fiction

DNA: The Facts and the Fiction was a creative writing and research project produced by Collage Arts to create a radio script about DNA and its role in solving crime. Writer Karen McCarthy worked with Year 11 Media students from Alexandra Park School in Haringey, London, to write and produce ‘The Brief Life of Baby Lara – A Monologue’ with the view to turning it into a radio production. Samantha Weinberg (Author of Pointing from the Grave: A True Story of Murder and DNA) and Chris Truran (Trainer in forensics for the Metropolitan Police) visited the school and gave a talk.

Patterns in the Mind, Patterns in the World

www.daisi.org.uk
The project will research a drama work which will provide an accessible and interesting way to challenge and stimulate a young person's interest in science. This will involve consulting neuroscientists, mathematicians and biologists to look at the idea of 'dynamic patterns' and will explore whether ideas about the brain's patterning of information could form the basis for a performance or artwork for young people.

Signs of Life

The Eden Project intends to collaborate with 12 Foundation Degree in Performance students at Truro College, the Eden Education Team and an experienced creative team of theatre artists to create a performance and associated role-play workshops. This will tour to Year 9 students and subsequently play in repertoire at the Eden Project. The performance and workshops will explore ethical issues of vested interest and public accountability, as well as demystifying some of the science of genetic engineering.
