To coincide with the launch of the 'Pain' exhibition at the Science Museum, key events were launched to support the show. 'The heartache of St Valentine's day' on 11 February provided a forum for the public to discuss the pain of heartache as viewed by medical professionals and those who advise the lovesick and heartbroken.

During spring 2004, the ICA cinema in conjunction with the Documentary Filmmakers Group presented a short programme of documentary screenings on Pain.

Finally, review articles exploring the meaning of pain, its impact on our health and its role in religion, culture and society - all contributed by leading scientists, philosophers and academics - provides fascinating reading for those wishing to delve deeper into the many facets of this sensation.
