Traje de la muerte del maestro Manuel Granero [Bullfighter costume worn by the matador Manuel Granero the day of his death]
The bullfighter Manuel Granero was only 22 when he lost his life in a bullfight in Madrid. On 7 May 1922, the bull Pocapena (literally - 'little pain') first plunged his right horn into Granero's thigh, and then drove it into his eye, reaching his brain. One of the witnesses of this violent scene was the then young writer and philosopher Georges Bataille, who subsequently wrote his 'Story of the Eye' based on the incident.
