Judges

Ceri Crump has been Picture Editor for 'BBC Focus' magazine for four years and also works on 'BBC Wildlife Magazine'. Her background is in journalism, and previous judging experience includes the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition 2005.

Mike Davies is a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and Managing Director of Provet Limited, a company providing animal health information through the internet and online continuing education for the veterinary profession. He has been a judge for the Biomedical Image Awards since their inception in 1997.

Catherine Draycott has been Head of the Wellcome Trust Medical Photographic Library since 1992 and is responsible for the development of the department to provide access to a comprehensive collection of images of medicine and its history for both individual users and the media. She has been a judge for the Biomedical Image Awards since their inception in 1997.

Pallab Ghosh has been the Science Correspondent for BBC News since 1997. He reports on developments in science, technology, medicine and the environment. He is also Chairman of the Association of British Science Writers, which seeks to improve the standard of science journalism in the UK. Previously Pallab was also Senior Producer for the 'Today' programme and Science News Editor for 'New Scientist'.

Kathy Sykes has been Professor of Public Engagement of Science and Engineering at Bristol University since November 2002. She is Co-Director of the Cheltenham Festival of Science, has presented science programmes for the BBC and has undertaken other television and radio work. She has been a member of the Wellcome Trust's Public Engagement Strategic Advisory Group since 2002, and is a Trustee of the National Museum of Science and Industry (NMSI).
