Publisher open access policies

On 1 April 2013 our open access policy was updated to require all Trust-funded research papers that are published under an 'author pays' open access route to be licenced using the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY).

Wellcome Trust-funded authors can continue to seek publication in any journal that has a Wellcome-compliant open access policy, including those which allow authors to self-archive the author manuscript version of their article and make these freely available from PMC/Europe PMC within six months of publication. Authors should archive these papers using the Europe PMC plus manuscript submission system.

To check whether a journal's paid open access option or archive option is compliant with this updated policy, Wellcome Trust-funded authors can use the SHERPA Funders’ and Authors’ Compliance Tool (SHERPA FACT).
