Medical Research: Assessing the benefits to society

Better evidence is needed to demonstrate the impact of UK medical research on national health and prosperity, according to this report, published by the UK Evaluation Forum.

'Medical Research: Assessing the benefits to society', calls for the further development of methods to capture and evaluate the impact of medical research, and urges UK research funders to more actively support research into new evaluation methods, particularly approaches to assess economic impact.

The UK Evaluation Forum is supported by the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust.
