Wellcome Trust appoints new Head of International Science
The UK's leading biomedical research charity has today announced the appointment of Professor James Whitworth as the new Head of International Science. He is currently Professor of International Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Professor Whitworth was Team Leader on the MRC AIDS programme at the Uganda Virus Research Institute and has wide experience of working with developing countries.
Dr Sohaila Rastan, Director of Science Funding at the Wellcome Trust, said:
"I'm delighted Jimmy has joined the Trust at what is a very exciting time for Science Funding. He will bring a wealth of experience and his interests and background will be of tremendous value as we move forward."
Professor Whitworth will take his position in September 2004.
