Applications open for Wellcome Trust and NIH PhD studentships

1 July 2013

Applications are now open for the Wellcome Trust and National Institutes of Health Four-year PhD Studentships.

The studentships provide opportunities for the most promising postgraduate students to undertake four years of international, collaborative PhD training split between a UK or Republic of Ireland academic institution and the intramural campus of the National Institutes of Health at Bethesda in Maryland, USA.

This scheme is a partnership between the Trust and the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). It promotes the training of exceptional students in international collaborative biomedical research, at some of the best laboratories in academic institutions in the USA, the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Students will be co-mentored by supervisors in both laboratories, and are expected to spend about an equal amount of time in each (the specific division of time will depend on the research project).

Up to five studentships are available each year from the Trust, providing support for the student's stipend, PhD fees, college fees (if required) and a contribution towards research costs. The NIH will also provide a level of financial support and cover applicable travel costs.

Further information is available on our funding pages. Applications must be received no later than 30 September 2013.
