Early-career clinical postdoctoral fellowship schemes open
1 February 2013

Early Postdoctoral Training Fellowships for Clinician Scientists
These are for clinicians who have recently obtained a higher degree (typically a PhD). They provide the opportunity to explore new environments and gain postdoctoral research experience that will lay the foundations for a successful independent career. Fellowships can be tailored to enable individuals, where appropriate, to continue to progress their clinical training.
Fellowships are for up to three years, and the total cost will normally be capped at £350 000.
Postdoctoral Training Fellowships for MB/PhD Graduates
These provide a unique opportunity for the most promising newly qualified MB/PhD graduates or those who have achieved a high-quality PhD during, or before starting, their medical degree. Awards will help fellows regain their research momentum and make an early start in developing their independent research careers.
Fellowships are for up to four years and can be tailored to allow individuals to continue their postgraduate clinical training.
Both schemes are open to individuals with a relevant connection to the European Economic Area for fellowships to be held in a UK or Republic of Ireland sponsoring institution. Periods of training may be spent in other high-quality research environments in the UK or overseas.
For more details, see our clinical fellowships pages.
Preliminary applications are due by 5 April 2013.
