Applications open for new Wellcome Trust and NIH PhD studentships

21 September 2012

Applications are now open for the Wellcome Trust and National Institutes of Health Four-year PhD Studentships.

The scheme provides opportunities for the most promising postgraduate students to undertake international, collaborative four-year PhD training based in both a UK or Republic of Ireland academic institution and the intramural campus of the National Institutes of Health at Bethesda in Maryland, USA.

The awards are a partnership between the Trust and the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and promote the training of exceptional students in international collaborative biomedical research.

The programme will provide successful candidates with the support to train in some of the best laboratories in academic institutions. Students will be co-mentored by supervisors in both the UK or Republic of Ireland and the USA and are expected to spend an equal amount of time in both laboratories (the specific division of time will depend on the research project).

Up to five studentships are available each year from the Trust, providing support for the student's stipend, PhD fees, college fees (if required) and a contribution towards research costs. The NIH will also provide a level of financial support and cover applicable travel costs.

Further information is available on our funding pages. Applications must be received no later than 19 November 2012.
