Institutional Strategic Support Fund recipients announced
8 December 2011

Institutional Strategic Support Fund awards are being provided to universities that currently receive significant funding support from the Wellcome Trust. Each university has agreed to match the Trust's contribution with an equivalent investment of their own.
The awards offer financial support for universities to enhance institutional strategies for the biomedical sciences. They also provide incentives for institutions to support scientific progress, translation and interdisciplinary collaboration and to encourage greater efficiency, effectiveness and accountability in the stewardship of Wellcome Trust funding.
Institutions have been asked to identify how they could make best strategic use of the funding available and have chosen to use the fund in a variety of ways. These include salary support and seed funding for newly recruited senior research staff, personal support and research funding for early career researchers, support to encourage translational research, and support for public engagement and outreach activities.
