Early clinical careers scheme open for applications

7 October 2011

This new scheme is for talented clinicians who have recently obtained a higher degree (typically a PhD) and wish to undertake a period of postdoctoral research training in the best laboratories in the UK and overseas.

It will enable successful candidates to obtain high-quality postdoctoral training that will lay the foundations for a successful independent research career. The fellowship can be tailored to enable individuals, where appropriate, to continue to progress their clinical training.

It is envisaged that Fellows will start to work towards independence during the course of the fellowship and that they will subsequently seek further support through opportunities such as the Intermediate Clinical Fellowship scheme.

Awards are for up to three years, and the total cost of a fellowship will normally be capped at £350 000.

These awards are open to individuals with a relevant connection to the European Economic Area for fellowships to be held in a UK or Republic of Ireland institution.
