Wellcome Trust calls for proposals for the Human Heredity and Health in Africa Initiative

22 July 2011

The Wellcome Trust has just launched a call for proposals as part of the Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa) Initiative - a partnership between the African Society of Human Genetics, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Wellcome Trust.

H3Africa aims to develop African research networks that will address specific research questions that will advance our understanding of the genetic and environmental determinants associated with diseases of importance to African populations. The NIH anticipate that they will issue a separate, complementary call for applications under the H3Africa initiative. Please visit the H3Africa website for details of previous NIH Notices regarding future funding opportunities.

Awards from the Wellcome Trust will be made to African institutions; the principal applicant will be an African citizen or resident with a primary appointment in an African institution. It is expected that coapplicants will also be African citizens and/or based in African institutions, but collaborations with internationally leading-edge groups from outside Africa are encouraged.

Further details on the requirements and the application process can be found here.

Initial expressions of interest must be submitted by 16 September 2011, and preliminary applications must be submitted by 10 October 2011.
