Summer ‘Wellcome News’ out now
4 July 2011

The Trust's magazine 'Wellcome News' is all about sharing the stories of the people we support, and we’ve got some great articles in the summer edition. Gracing the cover is Professor Eleanor Maguire from the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging, University College London, who talks about her research to understand how we make memories of our personal experiences and the world around us.
Dr Chris Connolly, a neuroscientist from the University of Dundee, explains how a Christmas present from his mother-in-law changed the direction of his research. The Sanger Institute's Dr Julian Rayner tells us how it feels to be a winner of 'I'm a Scientist, Get Me out of Here' competition, and there's a quick guide to the science behind MRI and a close-up look at a 17th-century recipe book from the Wellcome Library.
Also in this issue, meet the team from Imperial College London working on i-Snake®, a robotic snake device that promises safer, more accurate and possibly even scar-free surgery.
As ever, you'll find opinion columns, the latest news on the Wellcome Trust, Wellcome Library and Wellcome Collection, and updates on the Trust's funding and research activities inside.
Finally, to celebrate the Wellcome Trust's 75th anniversary in July, each copy of 'Wellcome News' includes a special commemorative 1936 issue inside. Featuring the scientific findings of the time, this special issue has been created to show how we might have covered the news of Sir Henry Wellcome's death and the formation of the Trust.
If you haven't seen these yet, download the new issue or the 1936 special or subscribe to receive future issues for free. We'd love to hear your comments, ideas or suggestions for this or future issues: email us and let us know.
