Applications open for second round of global health trials initiative
22 June 2011

Under the scheme - a partnership between the Wellcome Trust, the UK Medical Research Council and the UK Department for International Development - £12 million is available to support late-stage trials of health interventions that, by addressing major causes of mortality or morbidity, will help improve health in low- and middle-income countries.
The scheme, now in its second year, aims to strengthen the evidence base for improving health in these countries. Academic groups based either in the countries where the studies will take place or in the UK are invited to submit proposals.
The scope of the scheme includes, but is not limited to, behavioural interventions, complex interventions, disease management, drugs, vaccines, and hygiene and diagnostic strategies. The scheme is focused on late-stage (phase III or IV) efficacy and effectiveness trials.
For more information on the scheme, visit the Medical Research Council website or email jointglobalhealthtrials@headoffice.mrc.ac.uk. The submission deadline for outline applications is 12 September 2011.
