Wellcome Trust researchers receive Prince Mahidol Award

11 November 2010

Two of the Wellcome Trust’s leading global health researchers have been presented with this year’s Prince Mahidol Award in the field of medicine.

Professor Nick White, Chairman of the South-east Asia Clinical Research Network, and Professor Kevin Marsh, Director of the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme, have both been given an award in recognition of their "outstanding and exemplary contributions to the advancement of the world's medical and public health services". Each Award consists of a medal, a certificate and a sum of $50 000 (£31 000).

The Prince Mahidol Award Foundation was established in Thailand on 1 January 1992 in commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Prince Mahidol of Songkla. The Foundation is under royal patronage, with Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn as current president.

The Awards will be presented at the end of January 2011 in a ceremony presided over by the King and Queen of Thailand.
