Director of Science Funding: exciting position available

We’re looking for a new Director of Science Funding with the vision and drive to lead our initiatives in biomedical science and research for health.

As a global charitable foundation dedicated to achieving extraordinary improvements in human and animal health, the Wellcome Trust is a leading funder of research in biology and medicine. You’ll be responsible for managing and developing these programmes of scientific support, identifying funding opportunities and developing strategic initiatives.

This is a position that is both broad and influential, and so candidates should have excellent records in scientific or medical research, success in leading other scientists and staff in academic or industrial research, outstanding communication skills and an in-depth knowledge both of biomedical science and of the broader issues that affect UK and global research.

Reporting to the Director of the Trust, Sir Mark Walport, you will contribute to strategy and operations as a member of the Executive Board and by attending meetings of the Board of Governors. You will lead and inspire a dedicated team of around 35 staff, and will be expected to engage actively both with the external scientific community and with the general public.

A highly competitive remuneration package is negotiable to reflect the importance of this role.

To discuss the role in confidence, please contact:
