Public meeting on the ethics of UK Biobank
4 February 2010

UK Biobank is a long-term project to build a major resource of data and samples with the participation of 500 000 individuals aged 40-69. The UK Biobank Ethics and Governance Council is holding a public meeting and discussion about this project at Sheffield Town Hall on 22 March 2010.
At the meeting, the Council will report on its activities and invite questions about its work. A representative from UK Biobank will also be present, as both organisations are keen to hear your views.
The meeting will take place at Sheffield Town Hall, Pinstone Street, S1 2HH from 18.00-20.30, and will include drinks and nibbles. It is free to attend and all are welcome.
You may be one of the participants or you may have no connection with the project. You don't have to be an expert of any kind and you certainly won't be put on the spot. But if you're interested in this kind of issue and might want to add your voice, do come along.
You don't have to register in advance, but it would help us make the arrangements if you did. Please register online, telephone 020 7611 8777, or email s.bassam@wellcome.ac.uk.
UK Biobank will support a diverse range of research intended to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses (such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes and dementia), and the promotion of health throughout society.
The UK Biobank Ethics and Governance Council is an independent monitoring body that advises on the ethical framework under which UK Biobank operates.
