Clinical veterinary fellowships now open
7 September 2009

In September 2007, the Trust launched a new £10.7 million initiative to support a range of activities designed to encourage veterinarians to take up research careers. The award included provision for three fellowship schemes, which enable veterinarians to develop a career combining both laboratory-based research and clinical practice.
These fellowships, which are awarded annually, are now open for 2009. The three fellowships are:
Veterinary Research Entry Fellowships, which provide support for veterinary graduates who wish to undertake research leading to a Master's degree. The closing date for full applications is 25 January 2010.
Integrated Training Fellowships for Veterinarians, which provide support for veterinary graduates who wish to develop a career in veterinary research by obtaining a PhD and clinical training. The closing date for preliminary applications is 19 October 2009.
Veterinary Postdoctoral Fellowships, which provide support for veterinary postdoctoral researchers who wish to undertake high-quality research and develop their independence. The closing date for preliminary applications is 19 October 2009.
The Trust is keen to promote these fellowships as a mechanism for fostering collaborations across the biomedical sciences and, therefore, is particularly encouraging applications where research projects are based in, or involve collaboration with, a team carrying out basic research.
In addition to the fellowships outlined above, the Trust's general project, programme and some fellowship schemes are open to veterinarians.
