Wellcome Trust launches science media studentships
17 December 2008

The 18-month studentships will enable two students to undertake a postgraduate course in Science Media Production at Imperial College London. The studentships will cover tuition fees as well as £18 000 of financial support for basic living expenses.
Funded students will also benefit from a prearranged six-month placement working in the broadcast industry.
The majority of the public regard television as their most significant source of information about science. The Trust and Imperial College believe that the broadcast media should represent and reflect all areas of science and culture, and therefore should be produced by people from a variety of different backgrounds.
The Science Media Studentships aim to increase the crossover between science and the media, and to enable bright, articulate and motivated scientists to train for a career in the broadcast industry.
Applicants should be practising biomedical scientists wishing to explore a career in the broadcast media. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent, some experience of science communication and a demonstrable aptitude for working with TV, radio or film.
Further details and application forms are available from the Imperial College website.
Applications must be received by 27 February 2009.
