Funding: Seeding Drug Discovery

31 August 2007

Preliminary applications for the fourth round of Seeding Drug Discovery funding are invited.

The Wellcome Trust's five-year £91 million Seeding Drug Discovery initiative aims to help researchers within academia or the biotechnology industry to establish and advance new drug-like, small molecules to a stage at which they are likely to be further developed by the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.

To date Technology Transfer has committed £23m of this fund to early-stage drug discovery projects targeting diseases including amyloidosis, obesity, cancer, multiple sclerosis, MRSA and infections from Gram-negative bacteria.

Research groups who have a novel biological or chemical insight that could generate promising pre-clinical small-molecule drug candidates are encouraged to apply for funding. Preliminary applications for the fourth round are required by 9 November 2007, or by 23 May 2008 for the fifth round.
