Funding: Kenya funding

19 June 2007

New fellowships have been awarded to researchers at the KEMRI–Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kenya.

Anthony Scott, formerly a Research Career Development Fellow, has been awarded a Senior Research Fellowship in Clinical Science. Dr Scott’s previous research highlighted the value of a Hib vaccine programme in Kenya, which led the Kenyan Government to support a permanent implementation.

Andrew Brent has been awarded a Research Training Fellowship to test various methods of TB diagnosis in Kenya.

In addition, Kenya will be the East African base of new Research Career Development Fellow Simon Brooker (see Funding: Immunology and Infectious Disease).

Professor Kevin Marsh, Director of the Kenyan Programme, has been awarded a further £1 million to continue its attempts to build local health
