Funding: Animal watch

24 May 2007

Sarah Cleaveland, a veterinary-trained researcher at the University of Edinburgh, has been awarded a project grant of up to £511 263 to study the pathogens affecting livestock in East Africa.

Despite the veterinary impact of such infections, and their actual or potential transmission to human populations, little is known about the spread of animal pathogens in this region. As livestock keepers live in intimate contact with their animals, there is a risk that new infections will spread to people.
