Update: use of electronic patient records for research and health benefit

4 June 2007

A 'Frontiers' meeting on 'The use of electronic patient records for research and health benefit' was held on 24 and 25 May, attended by senior policy makers and researchers in Government, industry and academia.

This meeting, organised by the UK Clinical Research Collaboration and the Wellcome Trust, showcased international examples of how routinely collected medical data can be used in research without compromising patient confidentiality and public trust. The event provided a vision of how patient information in the NHS Care Records Service could be used for health benefit and medical research in the UK.
