update: Remains of the day

13 March 2007

The Museum of London has launched its database of biometric data from nearly 5000 skeletons unearthed during London excavations.

The Wellcome Osteological Research Database was formally launched at a two-day symposium, 'Value of Human Remains in Museum Collections'. The symposium, part-funded by the Wellcome Trust, was held on 3–4 March 2007 at the Museum of London and explored the scientific, educational and community value of collections of human remains.

The new database will make it easier for researchers to access material that will shed light on disease trends and lifestyle changes during the last two millennia.
