The Wellcome Trust is supporting the £8 million initiative launched by the UK higher education funding councils and Research Councils UK to develop a network of public engagement 'beacons' – centres of expertise in public engagement with science. The four-year pilot initiative aims to establish a nationwide network of beacons, with a coordinating centre, to build capacity, spread good practice and promote a positive culture towards public engagement within higher education institutions.
