Funding: Knockout mouse resource12 December 2006 |
Invitations are invited from researchers for a limited number of gene knockout mouse strains and associated phenotypic data, to be acquired from Deltagen and Lexicon Genetics.
This resource, which will be archived and distributed through the European Mutant Mouse Archive (EMMA), adds to the mouse knockout lines already purchased by the NIH and deposited in US repositories. Together these resources will provide researchers with unprecedented access to two private collections of knockout mice, providing valuable models for the study of human disease and laying the groundwork for a public, genome-wide library of knockout mice. Making existing mouse knockout resources available to the community also prevents unnecessary duplication, with reduction of time, money and use of animals involved in the construction of the mouse lines.
Such comprehensive information on such a large group of mice has never been available to public sector researchers, and is expected to greatly accelerate efforts to explore gene functions in health and disease.
In the first instance funding decisions will be made in February 2007. The deadline for receipt of proposals will be 13 January 2007.
