Funding: Generation Genome

20 October 2006

'Generation Genome: Life in the making', a major five-year touring exhibition being produced by At-Bristol, has been awarded a £1.5 million Capital Award from the Wellcome Trust.

Being developed in collaboration with Ecsite-UK, the umbrella organisation for science centres and museums, the project aims to engage the public in current and future UK-based molecular genetics and genomics research.

At the heart of the project is a 350 m2 travelling exhibition aimed at students aged 14 and above and adults, together with six smaller replicable 'exhiblets'. The travelling exhibition will be hosted by larger science centres and museums in the UK, and the exhiblets will be provided to both smaller and larger venues, including shopping centres.

The travelling exhibition will feature a continuously updated 'News and Views' area, a 'Dialogue Zone' and multiple opportunities for visitors to engage with topical ideas and ethical issues, encouraging debate on both personal and societal levels.

'Generation Genome: Life in the making' will acknowledge the significant investment made by the Wellcome Trust in genomic and genetic research, especially through the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.

'Generation Genome' will be accompanied by associated learning and engagement programmes, and expects to reach 1 million people. It will be launched at the end of 2007.
