Funding: Consanguineous families

11 June 2006

Consanguineous families (those based on marriage between close relatives such as cousins) are being recruited for a project led by Professor Eamonn Maher at the University of Birmingham. Professor Maher and colleagues are searching for genes associated with autosomal recessive diseases, particularly those affecting the brain and eye. Autosomal recessive diseases are relatively common in consanguineous families, as children may inherit the same mutation from their mother and their father.
