Funding: Genetics funding

5 June 2006

Professor Lon Cardon, a Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellow at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford, has been awarded a £1.4 million programme grant renewal. Professor Cardon is developing statistical methods for use in genome-wide scans for genes associated with common diseases. Of particular note, the new methods will also consider interactions between a number of genes – most current approaches assume each gene acts in isolation, which is unlikely to be biologically realistic.
