UPDATE: Roundhouse reopens

1 June 2006

The Roundhouse, the legendary former railway shed that hosted rock bands and avant-garde art in the 1960s and 1970s, has reopened 23 years after it first closed, thanks in part to the Wellcome Trust.

A grant from the Trust of up to £2.5 million has helped to transform the historic venue in Camden, north London, into a main performance space that can seat 1700 people or accommodate 3300 standing, a studio theatre seating 150 people, and a series of rehearsal rooms, recording studios and editing suites for young people.

The Creative Centre will give young people aged 13–25 the opportunity to work with arts professionals in music, theatre, film and TV, dance, fashion design, creative writing, visual arts and new media. Professionals will help to inspire them to work on original projects covering all aspects of the arts, society and the biosciences.
