Update: Research resources
2 February 2006
A new section of our website has been created to provide information on and access to some of the many rich Wellcome Trust-funded resources to support biomedical research. If you have any additional Wellcome-funded resources you feel would be of use to the research community, please contact us at publishing@wellcome.ac.uk. Resources covered so far:
- The Mutagenic Insertion and Chromosome Engineering Resource (MICER) - Nearly 100 000 ready-made insertional targeting vectors for generating knockout mice and for chromosome engineering (Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute).
- E. coli resources – Over 7500 E. coli and Salmonella isolates to support research into the epidemiological relationships between enterobacteria in different hosts and host populations (University of Edinburgh).
- The Human Developmental Biology Resource (HDBR) - A collection of embryonic tissue to help developmental biologists increase knowledge of a large number of serious diseases and conditions (The Institute of Child Health, London and the Institute of Human Genetics, Newcastle upon Tyne).
- The International Sequencing Consortium database - Up-to-date information about animal, plant and other eukaryotic genomic sequencing projects (The National Human Genome Research Institute).
- Ensembl genome browser - A web-based tool for accessing and analysing genome sequence data (The European Bioinformatics Institute and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute).
- The Cambridge Resource Centre for Comparative Genomics - 'Ready-to-use' chromosome-specific DNA from more than 100 species (University of Cambridge).
- Structural Genomics Consortium – Structures of proteins that have relevance to human health and disease, such as those associated with diabetes, cancer and malaria (International partners).
