Discovery days

Opened last November, the National Science Learning Centre will be holding three Discovery Days in association with the Royal Society, on 31 January, 7 February and 21 February 2006.

Each Discovery Day will provide teachers and technicians with an intensive one-day professional development experience featuring:

  • a Royal Society lecture from either Professor Steve Jones, Professor Colin Pillinger FRS or Professor Jocelyn Bell Burnell FRS
  • a lecture from Sir Mike Tomlinson, Professor Robin Millar or Professor Mary Ratcliffe
  • a range of innovative demonstrations, which can be recreated in the classroom
  • an in-depth look at how the Centre's IT facilities and web portal can aid teaching and learning
  • access to a range of the most up-to-date and exciting resources available to teachers.

Participants can network and share ideas with other science professionals from all over the UK.

Tickets are only £25, including morning coffee, lunch and afternoon refreshments, and can be booked online.

The National Science Learning Centre provides science teachers, technicians and support staff from across the UK with innovative and inspirational professional development. The Centre offers support in teaching exciting science by drawing upon best practice highlighted by contemporary research in science and the teaching of science.
