Biomedical Image Awards 2005

13 July 2005

An exhibition of exceptional biomedical images goes on show tonight following the presentation of the Biomedical Image Awards 2005.

Highlighting the most outstanding images recently acquired by the Wellcome Library’s Medical Photographic Library, the awards ceremony and exhibition are taking place in the Wellcome Library foyer, 210 Euston Road in London.

The beautiful award-winning images reveal fascinating intricacies of our world, ranging from a stunning image of a mast cell - the cell that causes all your hayfever symptoms - to flu viruses in the process of infection and a vibrant visualisation of the activity of thousands of genes.

Taken by scientific researchers around the country and abroad, the images will be officially unveiled by neurophysiologist Dr Mark Lythgoe from Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The show is then open to the public, Monday-Friday, 08.00-18.00, and Saturday, 09.30-13.00.
