Members of the public can find out more about the ethical governance of research databases at this UK Biobank Ethics and Governance Council's public presentation and discussion. The Council will be reporting on activities undertaken during its first year of operation.

UK Biobank is a long-term national project to build a major resource of medical data and samples from 500 000 individuals aged 40–69.

This resource will be used for research into the genetic and environmental factors that impact on human health and disease, helping to improve the health of future generations.

The UK Biobank Ethics and Governance Council is an independent body that guards and advises on the ethical framework under which UK Biobank operates.
