Funding: Strategic Awards Scheme

21 July 2005

The Wellcome Trust has launched a major new grants scheme – Strategic Awards. The Awards are intended to provide additional support for groups of excellent scientists in the UK or Republic of Ireland, to enable them to 'add value' to their existing activities.

A key element of the scheme is its flexibility. It will allow groups considerable freedom to enhance their current research in ways they think most appropriate, but cannot be supported by existing grant mechanisms.

Applications will need to demonstrate the 'added value' the award would provide, which might include training and capacity building in specific fields, the development of new technologies or resources, or the establishment of thematic and/or interdisciplinary research collaborations.
