Funding: Clinical research infrastructure initiative

1 July 2005

A major new grants scheme intended to support key clinical research infrastructure needs in the UK and the Republic of Ireland was launched today.

The Clinical Research Infrastucture Initiative has been created to provide significant new investment for clinical research infrastructure. The scheme is the result of a collaboration between the Wellcome Trust, the Wolfson Foundation, the British Heart Foundation, the Medical Research Council, the Irish Health Research Board and the Departments of Health – England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Our goal is that with this support, we can help speed up the translation of scientific advances into real benefits for patients.

Priority areas targeted by the scheme include clinical research facilities, enabling technologies (imaging, proteomics, genomics, diagnostics, devices), capacity for early medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical support.

The deadline for receipt of preliminary applications is 1 September 2005.

For full details and how to apply, see our Clinical research infrastructure pages [NB. 25 Sept 07 - These pages are no longer online] .

This initiative is part of a coordinated programme of work with the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) partners to build capacity in experimental medicine in the UK.
