gates visit

9 March 2005

Bill and Melinda Gates visited the Wellcome Trust on 2 March 2005, en route to Buckingham Palace for an audience with HM The Queen. Bill Gates was awarded an honorary knighthood in recognition of his business achievements and philanthropic work.

Since its inception, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded nearly US$7.5 billion (£3.9 billion) in grants, much of it to improve global health. While in the building, Bill and Melinda held meetings with Trust executives and external guests, and spoke briefly to Wellcome Trust staff.
