asia: body mind spirit exhibition OPENS

Step into Asia, its mind, body and spirit at an exhibition in the Brunei Gallery at London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

‘Asia: Body Mind Spirit’ focuses on a number of themes, all related to health and wellbeing in Asia. Since the healing arts in Asian societies impinge on practically every area of human endeavour the exhibition affords ample opportunity to show many of the Wellcome Library’s treasures including those illustrated in ‘Pearls of the Orient: Asian Treasures from the Wellcome Library’, which was published in 2003.

The exhibition is a collaboration between Asia House (renowned for promoting Asian culture in the UK), the Wellcome Trust and SOAS. It was funded by the Trust and has attracted a £50 000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to run an education programme that will provide events for children of all ages during the exhibition, which runs until 12 December 2004.

This is the first major exhibition that draws upon our Wellcome Library’s Oriental Collections. With our plans for new galleries in the refurbished Wellcome Building, it will be a taste of things to come.
