HIV dynamics
27 July 2003
Dr Simon Gregson and colleagues at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine have been awarded a £1.9 million Wellcome Trust programme grant to study the dynamics of HIV transmission in Zimbabwe. The award, through the Wellcome Trust's Health Consequences of Population Change Programme, will enable the group to assess the spread of the virus in a population of 10 000 in eastern Zimbabwe, a country badly affected by HIV/AIDS. The research will shed light on a number of key questions, such as how the spread of HIV has changed during the course of the epidemic, how it has been affected by different control strategies, and which approaches have been most successful.
