Alchemy Awards

10 August 2003

The Wellcome Trust has launched a new scheme to encourage wider use of the rich treasures of the Wellcome Library for the History and Understanding of Medicine. The Alchemy Awards support UK-based projects that use the Wellcome Library's historical collections to communicate ideas or information about medicine and science to the public, and stimulate thought and debate about the wider social impact of research.

The awards - which provide funding of £2000 a month for up to six months, plus extended access to the Wellcome Library and its collections - will support projects such as exhibitions, websites, films, teaching resources, creative works, workshops, talks or other events. Projects that use the history of medicine to shed light on and stimulate an informed debate around current health and research issues, such as animal experimentation, genetics, cloning and stem-cell research, are particularly encouraged.
