Supplementary funding

Grants are cash-limited at the point of award. Supplementary funding will only be provided in the following circumstances:

  • to meet additional costs resulting from paid maternity, paternity or sick leave taken by Trust-funded staff
  • to meet additional salary costs of Trust fellows where their actual employment costs exceed the budget provided*. In addition, the Trust would be willing to consider providing supplementary funds to cover promotions for Trust fellows.
  • to meet the actual cost of studentship course fees (where no Flexible Funding Allowance has been provided in association with these costs)
  • to meet the cost of 'banking' human stem cell lines in the UK Stem Cell Bank. Grantholders whose samples have been accepted by the Stem Cell Steering Committee should contact the appropriate Biomedical Science contact for further advice
  • to meet the open access charges levied by publishers who support the open access model (please note that a number of institutions have already been awarded additional funds specifically to cover such charges)
  • exceptional unforeseeable circumstances.

*Supplementary funding will not be provided for posts other than Trust fellows. Where the actual employment costs for non-Trust fellows exceed the salary budget provided (for example, additional costs arising from the Pay Framework Agreement, or changes to employers’ USS pension contributions), these additional costs should be met from other funds available on the grant.
