Investments
The Trust's £14.5 billion investment portfolio provides the income for its funding. The portfolio is managed by an Investment team that aims to generate a 4.5 per cent real return over the long term.
Investment history and objectives
In 1986, we began floating shares in the Wellcome Foundation Limited and used the proceeds to diversify our assets. The endowment has experienced an average 14 per cent growth every year since this first floatation.
Our approach
Investments are made through a variety of fund managers, as well as directly through strategic relationships that fit with the Trust's competitive advantages.
Investment team
The Board of Governors determines the broad structure of our asset management arrangements, with responsibility for implementation delegated to the Investment Committee and the Investment team.
