Introducing our types of funding
Our main funding schemes are Investigator Awards, Fellowships and Strategic Awards. We also provide a variety of funding schemes that are tailored to particular fields or initiatives, such as technology transfer awards to translate research into health products, and awards for research into medical history and humanities, and biomedical ethics.
To help society engage with and understand the biomedical sciences, we provide funding for artists, broadcasters and others in the creative industries.
Fellowships
They provide support for young researchers to be trained and mentored in the best environments, enable more experienced researchers to develop their own independent research programmes, and fund internationally recognised researchers to undertake world-class research.

Our fellowships fund outstanding individuals at all stages of their career.

Strategic Awards
Our Strategic Awards support ambitious, large-scale initiatives or research programmes that address our five research challenges as outlined in our 2010-20 Strategic Plan
.
The Awards are highly flexible, and have a wide-ranging remit: they can be used to address major research questions, to develop infrastructure, training, collaborations, or new fields of research, or to build bridges between disciplines.

Public engagement awards
Our Engaging Science grants programme supports projects that aim to inform and inspire the public about biomedical science and its social contexts. These can include films, theatre productions, exhibitions, events and multimedia.
Our funded activities also include directly commissioned work and partnerships with other organisations to reach broader audiences and support innovative practice.
