Darwin200
The Wellcome Trust brings Darwin into the 21st century

Charles Darwin is arguably one of the UK's most influential scientists. 2009 marked the 200th anniversary of his birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his book 'On the Origin of Species', which included his famous theory of evolution by natural selection.

The Wellcome Trust was proud to be part of Darwin200, a collaboration of organisations across the UK who celebrated these important landmarks with a range of exciting activities. The Trust's activities were centred around four broad categories:

Resources for schools

Get your class involved in our range of hands-on Darwin-related activities. Tailored for primary-school and secondary-school audiences, resources include free experiment kits to support The Great Plant Hunt and Survival Rivals.

Tree of Life This animated fly-through lets you explore evolution on Earth as never before. A four-minute film version, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, was shown on the BBC as part of its Darwin season.
