The Wellcome Trust brings Darwin into the 21st century

Darwin and Broadcast

As part of our activities to mark Darwin 200, we are working with broadcasters to support programming that explores Darwin, his story, his science and his impact on and relevance to the world today.

Following a call for proposals published in 'Broadcast' magazine in April 2007, the Trust has agreed to fund the development of four broadcast projects:

  • Illuminations - to create a multi-platform new media project following the live expedition by a group of scientists and artists tracing the routes of Darwin's journeys in the 1830s
  • Windfall Films - for a drama set on the voyage of the Beagle focusing on the relationship between Darwin and Fitzroy
  • Colourwheel Animation - to develop a creative and fun animated television series aimed at children aged six to ten, making Darwin and his theory of evolution accessible and understandable to children
  • Maverick TV - for a documentary aimed at school teachers to showcase examples of ingenious and effective ways of teaching evolutionary theory.
