Games

We work with people from across the games industry, from developers to tool providers, publishers to trade bodies, to inspire compelling games that engage players with bioscience - contemporary or historical - and medical humanities.

Our focus is on games as entertainment rather than edutainment.

Initiatives

Gamify your PhD Gamify Your PhD brought together six scientists and six games studios to create games inspired by new biomedical research - in just two days. Working in teams they successfully delivered addictive, entertaining and challenging beta games in a variety of genres. An interactive guide to gaming mechanics was developed for the initiative in partnership with Mobile Pie and Wired.co.uk.
Make Something Unreal Live 2013 Epic Games, Inc. invited the Wellcome Trust to set the theme for their international game development competition Make Something Unreal Live 2013. Entrants had to submit pitches for games inspired by the theme ‘Mendelian Inheritance: genetics and genomics’. The winners, Dead Shark Triplepunch with their game Epigenesis, were announced at the Gadget Show Live at the NEC in Birmingham.
Develop in Brighton We partnered with games conference Develop in Brighton to stage a Live Pitch Event in July 2013. Indie developers applied for Development Awards to produce prototypes of their biomedicine-inspired games. Successful applicants went on to pitch their developed concepts to a panel of industry experts, publishers and funders on the hunt for the next big thing.
